Honoré Daumier – French Painter and Caricaturist

Honoré Daumier (1808-1879) was a French caricaturist, painter, and sculptor. He is best known for his caricatures of political figures and countrymen. As the son of a glazier, he moved to Paris at age eight, and spent his time in apprentice jobs copying works in the Louvre. His produced many artworks in his career including 500 oil paintings which were subjective and of various themes. Our pattern set collection of Honoré Daumier contain his most recognized works including Dandy, Don Quijote, Crispin and Scapin, The Chess Players, The Lawyer, The Wrestler, The First Class Carriage, The Second Class Carriage, and Third Class Carriage, and The Print Lover.

Claude Monet – Founder of French Impressionism

Claude Monet (1840-1926) was a founder of an artist movement known as Impressionist painting. In fact, the term Impressionism is derived from the title of one of his paintings ‘Impression, Sunrise’ which was done in 1872. His wife’s name was Camlile and she was the subject of several of his paintings (The Woman in the Green Dress, The Woman in the Garden, The Red Kerchief) as was his first son Jean (Hobby Horse). He lived in various cities throughout his live including Paris, Normandy, London, Vétheuil, Vernon, and Giverny where many of his well-known garden scenes were painted. Our pattern set includes a vast selection of Monet’s art pieces and series. Alfred Stevens – Belgian Painter

Alfred Stevens (1823 – 1906) was a Belgian painter was the son of an art collector. He developed a conventional naturalistic style influenced by 17th century Dutch genre painting. He also studied works by painters such as Gerard ter Borch and Gabriel Metsu. He influenced social attitudes towards the poor with a work titled What is called Vagrancy. Many of his works use elegant modern woman as subjects. He also painted several works using a fashionable taste called japonisme which Stevens was an early enthusiast. William Glackens – American Realist Painter

William Glackens ((1870 – 1938) was an American Realist Painter and one of the founders of the Ashcan School of American Art which focused on portraying scenes of daily middle class life in New York. The works from this group were robust, urban themes done with energetic painting styles. Glackens later developed his own coloristic style which many compared to Renoir. His subject matters varied constantly through his life with portraits, landscapes, and still lifes.
