Jules Tavernier (1844-1889) was a French painter and was an artist of Hawaii’s Volcano School., a group of non-Hawaiian artists who painted nocturnal scenes of Hawaii’s erupting Volcanoes. Tavernier also painted landscapes in the San Francisco and Monterey areas. His work was so popular in Hawaii that he became the official painter to the king. Our pattern set contains Volcano at Night, Wailuku Falls, Sunrise over Diamond Head, Marin Sunset in Back of Petaluma, El Capitan, Indian Encampment, A Balloon in Mid-Air, West Coast Indian Baskets on a Blanket, and Waiting for Montezuma.
